Email-Friendly Embeds for Ghost

An embed on the web. A card for the inbox.

Embeds are made for the web, but often fail in email. This tool gives you the right card for each place: the real embed on your site, a card with the same content in the inbox, and a few cards Ghost doesn't have at all.

A ghost waving hello

How it works

Paste a link. Copy code that works everywhere Ghost can go.

Paste a link

A Spotify track, album, playlist, show or episode, a Bandcamp album or track, a SoundCloud track or set, an Instagram post or reel, a Bluesky or LinkedIn post, a Datawrapper chart, map or table, a Flourish visualization or story, or a PDF. The embed code works too.

Copy, then paste into Ghost

One copy puts the cards on the clipboard: the embed for the web and the card for email, or the one card. Paste on an empty line in the editor.

Confirm visibility

Chrome pastes each card with its visibility already set correctly; other browsers may need an extra click or two.

Owwww, my head. Publishing on Ghost should mean that your content looks great in email, on web, on ActivityPub/social web, AND on Apple News, if you're using my Ghost->Apple News integration.

This is super easy, as long as publisher stick to paragraphs and native images. Do publishers do that?…see more

Image with text wrap

The photo floats on the side you chose, and the paragraphs you write in the Ghost editor flow beside it.

When the text runs longer than the photo, it carries on underneath, the way a magazine sets a picture into a column.

The end card marks where the wrapping stops. Whatever comes after it starts on a fresh line, at full width.

What it can do

The same content, wherever the post lands.

On your site

The real thing: Spotify's, Bandcamp's and SoundCloud's players, Instagram's, Bluesky's and LinkedIn's embeds, the interactive Datawrapper chart and Flourish piece, a PDF readers can page through, and a photo with your own text wrapped around it.

On the social web

Ghost's ActivityPub readers get the web version of your post. The Spotify, Bandcamp and SoundCloud players play there and the LinkedIn post and Datawrapper chart show; Instagram, Bluesky and Flourish embeds can't run, so their cards stand in, and a wrapped photo sits above its text.

In email

Where embeds never load, the cards do the job: a Spotify-style bar with cover art and a play button, a Bandcamp card with the cover, a buy link and a play button, a SoundCloud card with the artwork, a waveform and a play button, the Instagram, Bluesky or LinkedIn post as its embed looks, the chart or Flourish piece as a picture, the PDF's first page with a download line, and the three image layouts as designed.

In Apple News

With the Apple News integration, every card becomes a native component: Apple's own Instagram embed, the Bluesky and LinkedIn cards rebuilt from their posts, the chart as a picture linked to the interactive one, the Spotify bar, the PDF's first page, and the image layouts, with a real text wrap on iPad and Mac.
